This recipe for Chocolate Doughnuts is the perfect donut for any chocolate lover. These homemade chocolate donuts are decadent without being overly sweet and has a white and dark chocolate drizzle to decorate the top.

🥘 Ingredients
Vegetable Oil for frying: I use Crisco brand solid vegetable shortening
All-purpose flour
Granulated sugar
Unsweetened cocoa powder: there are different types of cocoa powder, be sure to use one labeled unsweetened cocoa powder. I prefer to use Hershey's brand
Baking powder
Baking soda
Salt
Vanilla extract
Nonfat plain greek yogurt
Milk
Eggs
Dark chocolate melting wafers
White chocolate melting wafers
🔪 Instructions
- In a large heavy bottom pot, add Crisco and melt until you have of 2 inches oil when melted. Heat to 360 degrees F.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set the flour mixture aside.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the nonfat yogurt, milk, and eggs.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stir to combine and form a dough ball.
- Add shortening to a large pot and melt over medium heat. The oil level should be at least 3 inches deep. Bring oil to 350 degree temperature
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead in a little more flour if needed so dough is not sticky.
- Roll to ¾-inch thickness. Using a doughnut cutter, cut the doughnuts.
- Fry in hot oil for 1 minute per side. You will need to fry in batches. Drain on paper towel lined baking sheet.
- To make the glaze, in a small bowl, combine the white chocolate and 1 tablespoons milk. Microwave on High in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is melted and smooth (about 1 minute total).
- In a small bowl, combine the dark chocolate and remaining 1 tablespoons milk. Microwave on High in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the chocolate is melted and smooth (about 1 minute total).
- Place cooled chocolate donut on a wire rack with a piece of parchment paper beneath the rack. Drizzle melted chocolate over tops of the donuts.

Room temperature: store donuts in an airtight container up to 4 days.
Freeze: store in a freezer safe airtight freezer bag up to 3 months.
Reheat: warm thawed donuts in an air fryer or the oven at 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes, until warmed through.
📖 Variations
- Sour cream can be substituted for the greek yogurt.
- Chocolate chips and white chocolate can be used instead of melting wafers.
💭 Tips
- No donut cutter? No problem! Use a biscuit cutter or a wide mouth glass and a 1-inch round cutter (such as the bottom of a large Wilton decorating tip) to cut out the center of each doughnut.
