This creamy coconut lime margarita recipe is made with simple ingredients and can easily be scaled down to make fewer drinks in the recipe card at the bottom of this post.
Cream of Coconut, this is something you find in the cocktail section of the store, or you can buy it on amazon. It is not the same as coconut cream. It is thick, creamy, and sweet and coconutty.
Fresh Limes: for the lime juice, lime zest, and garnish
Silver tequila
Triple sec: this adds a hint of orange liqueur and sweetness to the drink.
Toasted coconut flakes: to rim the glass
Ice cubes
🔪 INSTRUCTIONS
- Zest and juice the limes. Set the juice aside and mix the lime zest, and 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar with the toasted coconut flakes.
- Run a cut lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip the glass into the coconut mixture.
- Place the lime juice, tequila, triple sec, all of the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth
- Pour into prepared glass and garnish with a slice of lime (if using).
🥄 Equipment
Heavy duty blender: I LOVE the Ninja countertop blender
Margarita glasses
Citrus reamer: to extract the lime juice.
Microplane zester: to zest the lime
🥫Storage
For short term storage: If making this adult beverage for a smaller group, you can store the unserved drink right in the blender in the freezer.
You could also store this in the freezer in an airtight container and remove it from the freezer and let it thaw slightly before blending in the blender before serving.
📖 Margarita Variations
- Use agave syrup or honey instead of lime juice to rim the glass. Increase the amount of ice to adjust for the level of frostiness you would like in the beverage.
- Substitute white rum for the tequila.
- Grand marnier can be substituted for the triple sec.
💭 TOP TIPS
- Use crushed ice for a quicker and frostier blend.
- To reduce calories, you can substitute ½ cup of coconut milk or coconut water for the cream of coconut. I do not recommend a full substitution.
- Make a shaken drink instead of frozen, add ingredients to cocktail shaker with ice and shake until frosty.
