This Tahini Dressing Recipe is a rich creamy sauce made with sesame paste (aka tahini), lemon juice, a little bit of hot water, and garlic. It is a delicious dressing recipe sauce that is perfect for topping salads, dipping veggies, and to drizzle over some homemade falafel.
What Is Tahini
Tahini is sesame butter, also known as sesame paste. It is made by grinding sesame seeds into a paste. Tahini has a bitter taste on it's own and is complemented by adding acid (such as lemon juice) salt, and seasonings such as garlic.
It is mostly used in Mediterranean style recipes and best known for making a tahini dressing recipe that goes great over top of a falafel filled pita sandwich! Tahini is also used to make hummus (my fav is this Roasted Red Pepper Hummus), and can be used in sweet recipes as well, such as Tahini Brownies.

Tips and Recommendations
- Make sure the tahini is at room temperature and stir it well before measuring.
- Be sure to use fresh garlic cloves. The flavor will not be the same if you substitute powder.
- Spice the tahini dressing up a little with a few pinches of cayenne pepper or cumin.
- Buy good tahini. My favorite brand is found at Trader Joe's, but if that is not available to you, then this is my next go to brand.
- Hot water will help to emulsify the ingredients and fresh lemon juice helps to thicken the dressing.
- Stir in 1 tablespoon of chopped fresh parsley.
