Grinder garlic salt: I love Trader Joe's Garlic salt, but you can use any garlic salt you have.
Black pepper
Rib Eye Steak: the steak I bought was about a pound and an inch thick. Feel free to use this as a base recipe for filet mignon, which is a thicker steak that will need to cook longer.
🔪 Instructions
- Pat steak with paper towels to remove any excess moisture. Generously season steak with salt and pepper, coating the top, bottom and all sides of the steak, rubbing seasoning into the meat to absorb.
- Allow meat to set at room temperature for 5 minutes to soak in the seasoning.
- Preheat air fryer at 400 degrees for 5 minutes (while steak is resting).
- Place steak in air fryer basket or tray and slide into the air fryer. Cook for 8 minutes.
- Remove basket from air fryer and flip steak over. Cook another 5 minutes. Check internal temperature using an instant-read thermometer for desired level of doneness of your own personal preference. (I go for 135 degrees F for a medium rare steak)
- Remove steak from air fryer and let steak rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
🥄 Equipment
Air Fryer: the air fryer brand I use is Pampered Chef which has trays instead of a basket, but this recipe should work in basket air fryers as well.
Tongs: used to grip the steak and flip it over.
Digital meat thermometer: to measure the degree of doneness.
🥫Storage
Refrigerate: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge up to 4 days.
Reheat: for best results, reheat steak in the air fryer for 3 - 5 minutes at 350 degrees.
📖 Variations
- Use regular salt and garlic powder in place of the garlic salt.
- Top the cooked steak with garlic butter for an extra boost of flavor.
💭 Tips
- Depending on the thickness of the steak you may need to increase or decrease cooking times. If cooking a thinner steak, start it at 5 minutes, check the temp, then flip and cook until it has reached the desired temperature.
- As always, it is very important to use the instant-read meat thermometer to indicate the doneness of the steak.
- Cook at a high heat setting. My air fryer goes to 400 degrees. Many basket fryers go to only 390. Gauge your cook time depending on the steak and temperature you will be cooking.
- Olive oil is not required to make a delicious steak! Don't add extra fat. The steak has enough delicious fat of it's own and the rub will absorb without the need for olive oil to make it wet.

The last word
I love air fryer recipes, and for me it is the best way to the best flavor with an end result that is juicy and delicious. It is pretty much fool proof! I love the browned crispy bits all over the outside of the steak with all that sealed in goodness from the heat of the air fryer circulating around the beef.
